Suurimmat ruokakaupat ovat Coles ja Woolworths. Aldi on varmaan sitten näiden jälkeen. Sydneyn ulkopuolella ollaan nähty myös Foodworks ja Supa IGA. Ainakin tämän artikkelin mukaan Aldi on hinnoiltaan halvin ja Coles ja Woolworths melko samanhintaisia. Colesissa ollaan taidettu käydä eniten. Aldista ei löydy kaikkea sillä valikoima on suppeampi. Aldi on saksalainen kauppaketju, jonka konseptin Lidl on myös kopioinut taidokkaasti.
Ostoskeskuksissa on usein omia lihatiskejä ja hedelmäkauppoja, joista saa yleensä kaiken halvemmalla jos jaksaa nähdä vaivaa ja käydä monessa eri paikassa.
Torstaina on shoppailupäivä ja muutenkin virastopäivä, jolloin kaikki paikat ovat auki pidempään. Coles ja Woolworths olivat Sydneyssä auki 12 yöllä, mutta Aldi meni jo kahdeksalta kiinni. Keskustan vaateliikkeet Sydneyssä menivät myös normaalisti kiinni viiden kuuden maissa, mutta torstaisin taisivat olla kahdeksaan asti auki. Myös esim. kirjastot ovat torstaisin auki pidempään.

Food is so important in life that it needs its own post. The biggest grocery stores are Coles, Woolworths and Aldi. Outside Sydney we have also seen Foodworks and Supa IGA. According to this article Aldi is the cheapest one. It's a German chain that Lidl has copied the concept from. I think we have been going to Coles most often. Aldi is also good but the selection is not so wide. Woolworths is the most expensive but they have good specials. There are also individual fruit stores and butchers where you can buy stuff cheaper. They are normally in the same shopping centers as the supermarkets so for little extra effort you can save some money.
Thursday is the shopping day when the stores are open later than normal. Supermarkets in Sydney were open until 12 am, except Aldi closed at 8 pm. The clothing stores etc. in Sydney CBD normally close around 5 or 6 pm but Thursdays later around 8 pm. Also offices and example libraries are open later as well.
