Great Ocean Road & Grand Pacific Drive

Lähdimme Adelaidesta kohti etelärannikoa ja maailman kuulua Great Ocean Roadia. Mielestäni reitin varrelta löytyy hienompiakin paikkoja kuten Bay of Islands ja Loch Ard Gorge.

Yövyimme reitillä yhden yön Great Otwayn kansallispuiston tuntumassa Cape Otwayssa koaloiden kanssa.

Viimeiset pari sataa kilometriä Sydneyyn olivat Grand Pacific Drivea.

After Adelaide we headed to Great Ocean Road. Victoria's winter is known to be windy, cold and rainy and unfortunately we got experience all of them... The cold winds from Antarctica are really cold :( There's not too many tourists around in the winter so we could enjoy the sights peacefully except around the Twelve Apostles which is the "main sight". I think there are many more beautiful sights like Bay of Islands and Loch Ard Gorge.

We stayed one night in the surroundings of the Great Otway national park in Cape Otway "under the koalas". There was three koalas in our camping site and more on the way there. What an experience :)

The route goes mainly by the coast but there's also mountains and rainforests. We once again saved in our budget and didn't stay in Melbourne although there would have been still lots to see after our first visit. We were thinking about going to Snowy Mountais and Mount Kosciuszko but we thought we are going to save Rambo from the long and winding (and snowy) mountain roads. Well you gotta save something for the next time :)

We wanted to do some camping before heading to Sydney so we headed to Snowy River national park. The road was a bit rough but Rambo did well (we got away from there as well). We came around dusk and didn't do much exploring of the campsite in the evening. Ilari saw some animal in the dark but didn't see it very well. In the morning we realized that we didn't spend the night alone. There was piles, holes, poop and other markings in the surroundings. After some research we knew that it must be a wombat. Wombats are nocturnal animals so we waited until dark and headed out to explore. We were so lucky to see a wombat! We went to get our phones to take pictures but unfortunately we didn't get any.

The journey continued up the east coast and enjoying the beautiful scenery. We stayed a couple of nights in Dalmeny and the went through Jervis Bay, Kiama, Sea Cliff Bridge and Royal National Park. The last a couple of hundred kilometres where the Grand Pacific Drive.

We are now enjoying our last weekend Sydney (and Australia) and on Monday we're heading to New Zealand! :)
