Ensimmäinen päivä // First day
Saavuimme Singaporeen torstaina 1. lokakuuta neljän tienoilla ja siitä menimme sitten suoraan hostellille. Hostellimme Vintage Inn sijaitsee Little Indian kaupunginosassa, johon pääsimme hyvin kävellen bussipysäkiltä. Hostelli on niin sanottu kapselihostelli, jossa nukutaan pienissä kapseleissa perinteisten sänkyjen sijaan. Miehet ja naiset ovat sekaisin ja kapseleita on yhden ja kahden hengen. Hostelli oli oikein siisti ja kapselit kätevät. Hostellissa ei ollut kovinkaan hyviä yleisiä tiloja. Tietokoneet olivat samassa huoneessa kuin kapselit ja keittiössä oli neljä pöytää, mutta ei mitään sohvia, telkkaria tms. Kapselitkin kun ovat vain nukkumista varten, joten hostellissa ei oikein viitsinyt kauheasti hengailla. Kapseleiden alla oli säilytyslokerot, joihin mahtui hyvin kaksi rinkkaa.
Ensimmäisenä iltana emme jaksaneet kovin pitkälle lähteä vielä seikkailemaan vaan pysyttelimme Little Indissa. Deepavali eli valon juhla oli alkamassa, joten kadut olivat koristeltu kauniisti teeman mukaisesti.

We arrived in Singapore on 1st October around 4pm. We headed straight to hostel which located quite near to the bus stop. Our hostel Vintage Inn is so called capsule hostel where you sleep in capsules instead of bunk beds like in a normal hostel. Women and men are in the same room and there's single and double capsules. Hostel was clean and the capsules where nice and comfy. There was no comfy sofas, tv or area to hang around and the capsules are only for sleeping. There was lockers underneath the capsules where you could fit two backpacks.
On the first night we didn't have energy to go anywhere so we said in Little India. Deepavali, festival of light, was about to start so the streets where decorated nicely.

Toinen päivä // Second day
Toisen päivän olimme varanneet eläintarhalle. Olisi todella pitänyt varata koko päivä, meillä oli aika aikaa noin kuusi tuntia ja meinasi loppua aika kesken. Lähdimme matkaan kymmenen maissa ja saavuimme eläintarhalle 11 maissa. Lippu taisi olla $32 ~ 22€. Saimme vinkin respasta suoraan eläintarhaan menevästä bussista, mutta myöhästyimme siitä vain minuutilla. Otimme metro + bussi yhdistelmän eläintarhalle, matka taisi kestää noin 45 minuuttia yhteensä. Matka oli yhteensä noin $4 ~ 2,75€. Otimme suoran bussin takaisin keskustaan, normaalisti matka on $6, mutta oli tarjouksessa $5. Mainostivat, että keskustaan vain 25 minuutissa ja näin se olikin, mutta keskustan läpi Little Indiaan meni toiset 25 minuuttia.
Eläintarha on yksi maailman arvostetuimpia ja eläimet ovat todella hyvin pidetty. Singaporen erikoisuutena on vapaana elävät orangit ja muutenkin eläinten vapaus. Eläintarhassa on käytetty mahdollisimman vähän häkkejä ja metallisia aitoja, jotta eläimet elävät mahdollisimman avoimesti. Ne ovat korvattu valleilla, vesiesteillä tai lasilla.
Parasta eläintarhassa oli ehdottomasti "Fragile forest", joka sademetsätyyliin tehty alue missä eläimet menivät vapaana. Siellä oli ainakin seuraavia: laiskiaisia (ei harmiksi nähty), lemureja, lenkoja (flying fox), lintuja ja sorsia, erilaisia papukaijoja, matelijoita ja perhosia, jotka olivat jättimäisiä ja tulivat ihan lähelle. Erikoisin eläin siellä oli "mousedeer" eli kääpiökauris, joka näyttää juuri englanninkielisen nimensä mukaisesti sekoitukselta hiirtä ja kaurista.

Myös kädellisiä oli paljon ja tuli nähtyä paljon kokonaan uusia lajeja. Suosittelen käyttämään yhden päivän eläintarhaan, se on todella sen arvoinen. :)

The second day we went to the zoo which we had planned the whole day. Note: you really need the whole day. We had six hours and it was almost not enough. The general ticket was $32 ~ 22€. First we took a metro and then changed into a bus to get to the zoo which took us 45 minutes and cost about $4 ~ 2,75€ in total.
We came back to the hostel with a shuttle bus which promised 25 minutes to the center. It was 25 minutes to the center but it took another 25 minutes to Little India.
The zoo is one of the best in the world and the animals are very well kept. They have minimized the usage of cages and metal fences. Instead there is moats, barriers and glass. It is famous for the free ranging orang utans.
The best part for me in the zoo was the "Fragile fores ". It's a rainforest area where the animals can move freely and live together as a mini ecosystem. There's sloths, lemurs, flying foxes, many different type of birds, butterflies and the interesting mousedeers.

There was also a lot of primates and many species that we have never seen before. I really recommend to use one whole day for the zoo, it is totally worth it :)

Kolmas päivä // Third day
Kolmantena päivänä lähdimme kävelemään Orchard Roadin suuntaan. Sitä pidetään Singaporen suurimpana shoppailukatuna ja siltä se vaikuttikin. Päivä oli tarkoitus viettää siellä ja illalla suunnata katsomaan sataman valoja ja sen kauniita rakennuksia.
Orchard roadilta löytyy varmasti jokaiselle jotakin, koska kauppoja riittää. Ostimme siltä reissulta vihdoinkin "selfie-tikun" GoProhon, josta erityisesti Ilari oli iloinen.

On the third day we headed to Orchard Road, the biggest shopping area in Singapore. We had planned to spend the day there and then in the evening head to the marina to see all the beautiful buildings.
There's something for everyone and the malls are quite a sight as well. We bought a selfie stick to the GoPro which made Ilari especially happy.

Suosittelen ehdottomasti menemään Ion Orchard nimisen kauppakeskuksen näköalatasanteelle, Ion Sky. Se on ilmainen ja sieltä näkee hyvin kaupungin yli. Kirkkaalla säällä näkee jopa Malesiaan asti. Valitettavasti meidän visiitin aikana ilmassa oli paljon savua (eng. haze). Ei sumua tai saasteita vaan savua, joka tulee Singaporeen Indonesiasta metsien kulottamisesta eli metsän polttamisesta viljelyä varten. Suuren kosteuden takia se jää ns. jumiin kaupunkiin. I recommend going up the Ion sky view point which can be found from Ion Orchard shopping center. It's free and you can see over the city from there. On a clear day you can see all the way to Malaysia. Unfortunately during our visit there was a lot of haze in the air. The haze comes from Indonesia where they burn forests for agriculture. Because of the humid and narrow streets, the haze gets stuck in the city. You can read more about from

In the evening we headed to the marina to see many sights and landmarks of Singapore: Merlion statue which welcomes all visitors from sea, Esplanade Theathers on the Bay, Singapore Flyer ferris wheel, Helix bridge, beautiful Gardens by the Bay and the Marina Bay Sands hotel which is know from boat shaped roof.

Neljäs päivä // Fourth day
Neljäntenä päivänä oli huoneen luovutus klo. 12 ja sitä ennen aina yhtä ihana rinkan uudelleen pakkaus. Nyt pidettiin kyllä tavarat mahdollisimman kasassa ihan tilankin takia. Odotettiin jo innolla Sydneyyn pääsyä ja sitä, että saa vähän hengähtää.
Ei jaksettu kovin kauas lähteä enää hikoilemaan, joten kävimme vain Bugis streetillä, joka on shoppailualue Little Indian kupeessa. Ei siellä mitään ihmeempiä ollut ja lähdimme takaisin hostellille.

We checked out around 12pm and of course before that packed our backpacks again. We were already looking forward to getting to Sydney and taking a break from traveling for a moment. We decided to check Bugis street which is a shopping area near Little India but there was nothing that interesting so we headed back to the hostel.
Ensin ajattelimme mennä päiväksi Sentosan saarelle, mutta pienen pohdinnan jälkeen päätimme jättää sen välistä. Sentosan saari on oikeastaan ainoastaan turisteja varten tehty viihdesaari. Sieltä löytyy muun muassa uimarantoja, joihin on kuulemma tuotu hiekkakin Malesiasta ja Hawajilta, Universal Studios, golfkenttiä, Madame Tussaud museo, näkötorni, aquarium ja paljon muita eläin/luontoaiheisia paikkoja. Me olimme jo nauttineet rantaelämästä Thaimaassa ja saarella ei ollut mitään mikä olisi pakko nähdä, joten jätettiin välistä. Rannatkaan eivät kuulemma ole kovin viihtyisiä, roskaa on paljon ja rahtilaivat siintävät horisontissa. Kaikkialle maksaa sisään myös aika paljon ja saarella on muutenkin kalliimpaa, joten sekin vaikutti päätökseen, esim. Universal Studios S$74 ~ 51€.

At first we thought spending the fourth day on Sentosa island but after some research we decided to skip it. It's an entertainment island made for tourists which included beaches, golf courses, Universal Studios, Madame Tussaud museum, Tiger tower, aquarium and many other places related to animals and nature. We had seen beautiful beaches already in Thailand and what I've read Sentosa beaches have rubbish and you can see big cargo ships on the horizon. Everything on the island is more expensive and of course it costs to see everything, for example the Universal Studios were S$74 ~ 51€.
Päädyimme siis lähtemään Changin lentokentälle ajoissa, koska olimme lukeneet, että se on yksi maailman parhaita ja sieltä löytyy paljon tekemistä. Lähdimme metrolla kohti kenttää ja olimme perillä viiden tienoilla. Teimme aikaisen check-inin, koska lentomme lähtisi vasta 01.45 yöllä. Kaikki meni kivasti ja lähdimme tutkimaan kenttää.

So we dedicated to head to the Changi airport early since we had read that it's one of the best in the world and that there's many things to see and do. We took the metro the airport and arrived around 5pm. We did the early check-in because our flight would leave at 01.45am. Everything went smoothly and we started explore the airport.

Puoli yhdeksän maissa minulle kilahti sähköposti (kiitos ilmaisen wifin), että lentomme viivästyy saapuvan koneen takia neljällä tunnilla. Voi *&$#/^ oli siinä vaiheessa ajatus. Se siitä "nukutaan yö koneessa" ajatuksesta. Arvata saattaa, että lentokentän kaikki erittäin mukavilta näyttävät lepotuolit olivat täynnä ja päädyimme nukkumaan ensin penkeillä ja sitten vaan lattialla. Tätä ennen olimme kuitenkin jo kiertäneet lentokentän kaikki kolme terminaalia ja katsoneet kaikki nähtävyydet, jotka olivat lähinnä puutarhoja (kiitos kätevä ilmainen juna, joka meni terminaalien välillä), katsoneet yhden ilmaisen elokuvan (Itse Ilkimys 2), syöneet mahat kipeäksi pizzasta, otettu ilmaisia jalkahierontoja ja shoppailleet niin kauan kuin jaksoimme. Lentokentästä oli käteviä esitevihkosia, jonka pohjalta oli helppo suunnistaa ja nähdä kaikki nähtävyydet ym. Kyllä se aamu alkoi vihdoin sarastaa ja pääsimme lähtemään kohti Sydneyä.
Sydneyyn saavuimme puoli viiden maissa iltapäivällä ja siitä onkin hyvä jatkaa sitten toisessa postauksessa :) Määränpää oli vihdoin saavutettu :)

Around 8.30pm I got an unpleasant surprise to my email (thanks to the free wifi), our flight was delayed by four hours because of the incoming plane. I may have used some curse words in this point... the idea of sleeping the night on the plane was ruined.
All the nice rest areas with comfy seats were taken and we ended up sleeping on the chairs and eventually the floor. Before this we had already traveled between the three terminals via free train to see all the sights which were mainly gardens, seen a free movie (Despicable Me 2), eat ourselves too full with pizza, had several free foot massages and shopped until we dropped. Thanks to free guide books of the airport it was really easy to find and see everything. Finally it was dawn and we got into the plane towards Sydney.
We arrived to Sydney around 4.30pm and from here on I can write to another post :) Finally we had reached the final destination :)

Fiiliksiä Singaporesta // Some points of Singapore
Singapore on siisti, toimiva ja moderni kaupunki. Kaikki mitä keksii toimii automaattisesti ja sähköisesti. Singapore oli aikoinaan tunnettu siitä, että purkan maahantuonti oli kielletty, tämä laki on jo poistunut, mutta kyllä siellä vieläkin on tiukat lait ja säännöt. Huumelait ja esim. salakuljetuksesta tulevat rangaistukset ovat vakavia, näistä varoiteltiin kyltein jo rajalla.
Thaimaan ja Malesian jälkeen Singaporen hintatason huomaa myös helposti. Siinä missä Thaimaassa hotelliyö maksoi 15€, Singaporessa meidän hostelli oli 50€ yöltä. Olihan se toki vähän hienompi ja sisälsi pienen aamupalan. Jostain luin, että yleisesti ottaen Singaporen hinnat ovat puolet Euroopan hinnoista (mitä ne nyt sitten ovat on toinen juttu).

Singapore is really clean, functional and modern city. Everything what you can imagine works automatically and electronically. Singapore was known from banning bubble gum importing but nowdays anyone can bring bubble gum with them. Drug laws are very strict and punishments very severe.
The first thing you notice after Thailand and Malaysia is the prices. We paid 15€ of one night in a hotel in Thailand and in Singapore we paid 50€ a night of the hostel. It was a bit fancier and included a small breakfast but still a lot money. I read from somewhere that Singapore prices are half of the European prices (whatever those then are according to the article).

Liikkuminen on helppoa ja kätevää metrolla. Metromatka maksetaan aina pysäkkien välien mukaan, joten mitä pidempi matka sitä suurempi hinta. Bussilla menimme kerran ja jos ei ollut ostanut etukäteen lippua niin piti olla tasaraha. Liikkumisesta tekee helppoa myös se, että kaikki on englanniksi (ja mandariinikiinaksi, malajiksi ja tamiliksi). Suomessa on helppoa kun on vain kaksi virallista kieltä ;) Välimatkat eivät myöskään ole pitkiä, joten lyhyessäkin ajassa kerkiää nähdä paljon.

Moving around in the city is easy and convenient with the metro. The journey is paid according to the length. It is also easy to navigate in the city because everything is in English (also in Chinese, Malay and Tamil). It is also easy too a lot in short time because everything is so close to each other.

Ensi kertaan Singaporeen jää Singapore sling drinkkien juominen ja ehkä isommalla budjetilla voi mennä sitten Sentosaan ja yösafarille eläintarhaan.
