Ensitunnelmia Sydneystä // First weeks in Sydney

Täällä siis vihdoin ollaan! Kolme viikkoa takana ja vielä yksi edessä Sydneyssä ja sitten uusiin seikkailuihin. Pahoittelut viivästyksistä blogin suhteen. Viikot ovat menneet kaupungissa seikkaillessa, nähtävyyksissä, shoppaillessa (paljoa ei ole kyllä ostettu), tutustuessa uusiin juttuihin kuten ruokakauppoihin ja tietysti on hoideltu pakolliset "viralliset" asiat kuten veronumerot ja pankkikortit alta pois, jotta reissu voi alkaa.

Tosiaan Australian rajalla ohjelmassa meitä ei valitettavasti nähdä, koska kaikki rajalla sujui oikein sujuvasti, mitä nyt tullivirkailija ei meinannut löytää ääkkösiä Ilarin nimeen. Koneessa piti täyttää maahantulokortti, jossa piti rastitella onko ruokaa, eläinmateriaaleja tms. Minä rustitin eläinmateriaalit (nahka ja untuva), puutavarat (hiusharja, myös lakattu ja käsitelty puu tuli ilmoittaa) ja mahdolliset maaperän jäämät (vaelluskengät). Ilarilla oli vain untuvamakuupussi. Menimme tiskille ja virkailija katsoi kortit ja kysyi tarkentavasti mitä tavarat on. Selitimme ja mies vain sanoi, että on varmaan hyvä kuntoisia ja puhtaita ja me vaan oltiin, että on ja ei tarvinut sen ihmeemmin rinkkoja availla tai tavaroita esitellä. Sitten ei muuta kun menoksi.

Here we are! Finally! Three weeks have passed already and one week ahead in Sydney. Then it's time for new adventures. Sorry I've been so slow with the blog, I'll try to improve. The first weeks we have been seeing sights, getting to know the neighborhood, shopping and some "official" duties like tax file numbers and bank accounts.
Everything went well on the border to Australia, the officer just had a minor issue with Ilari's last name with "ä". He couldn't find where to input it on the computer. On the plane we had already filled the "Incoming passenger cards" which were checked on the border control. I had marked animal and wood materials and possible soil. I had my down sleeping bag, a hair brush with wooden handle and my trekking boots. Ilari only had a sleeping bag. The officer who "inspected"  just what we had and are they in good condition. We said yes and didn't even have to show anything. Then we were good to go :)

Majoitus on meillä Airbnb:n kautta ja ollaan oltu samassa paikassa nämä kolme viikkoa. Talo sijaitsee Ashburyssa, noin 8 km Sydneyn keskustasta. Siitä voi lueskella täältä.  Pari pientä yllätystä tässä on tullut, mutta ei mitään maailmaa mullistavaa. Ilmoituksesta sai sen käsityksen, että piharakennus on kokonaan meidän, mutta se onkin jaettu ja paperinohuen seinän takana asuukin pidempiaikainen vuokralainen. Ilmoituksessa ei mainita vuokralaista eikä myöskään, että talo olisi yksityinen, joten no harm done. Kuvissa talossa on kaunis vihreä nurmikko, mutta 10 kuukaudessa pihalla asuva border collie on tuhonnut sen kokonaan.

The accommodation in Sydney is through Airbnb and we stay in the same place for the whole four weeks. I wrote about it earlier in this post. A couple of little surprises but nothing major. There another person staying in the same house as we are which didn't read on the add but it didn't say that it was totally private either. The wall are paper thin so this is almost like a shared accommodation... There was a green grass in the yard in the pictures but during ten months the little border collie has unfortunately destroyed it completely.

Here's some of the adventures during our first weeks in Sydney:

Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House

It wasn't as big as I thought :D

They were showing the opening episode of the Walking dead in the Opera house for FREE, too bad we didn't realize it soon enough :( 

On the side of the pavement next to the Opera house seals come and rest, we were lucky to spot one :)

They have amazing Swarovski Christmas tree (that's right Maria) ;) and the whole building is decorated beautifully from the inside.

Harbour Bridge is not so pretty when you are walking on it. Tomi, nähtiin muuten vaan yks kakadu ja sekin rääkyen lensi pois sillalta. Ois ollu syötävääkin niille mukana :D

From The Rocks, many buildings reminded of the first settlements in Sydney which were on the Circular Quay and the Rocks in 1788.

We went to see an IMAX movie on the world's biggest screen. Probably the most expensive movie we'll ever see but the movie was very good and Joseph Gordon Levitt did a great job acting a French man. 

There was a fire works show just after the movie in Darling Harbour.

From Paddington Markets, they are every Saturday from 10am to 4pm and sell Australian and Sydney based art, craft, clothes etc. Without forgetting good food.  See their website for more information.

Sydney calling!

G' day mate! Nyt on Sydneyn majoitus buukattu kuukaudeksi! Voidaan ottaa rennosti, ei tarvitse stressata mistään ja majapaikka on mitä parhain! Saavutaan siis Sydneyyn 5. lokakuuta ja majoitus on nyt 1. marraskuuta asti.

Otettiin ensimmäisen kuukauden majoitus Airbnb:n kautta. Hinta oli halpa Sydneyn mittapuulla, mutta matkaa keskustaan on noin 9 km. Koko kuukauden majoitus (27 yötä) on 760€ (n. 28 €/yö kahdelta).
Tajusinpa tuossa, että maksetaan tällä hetkellä 749,50€ tästä meidän Lahden keskustan kaksiosta (sis. vedet 18,90€/henkilö + hallipaikan autolle 55€), että eipä tuo Sydney niin kallis ole jos ei ihan keskustassa halua yöpyä. Tuo sisältää kuitenkin kaikki kulut ja netin. Lähempänä keskustaa eli CBD:tä (central business district) ja Bondin lähellä huoneen (huom. siis pelkkä huone) olivat samalta ajalta noin 1050€. Eli vaikka matkoja saattaa vähän tulla niin kuitenkin säästetään pitkä penni.

Kämppä siis sijaitsee Sydneyn länsipuolella Ashburyssa. Sieltä on Ashfieldin juna-asemalle noin 1,8 km eli ei matka eikä mikään. Senkin pääsee bussilla suoraan kadun kulmasta jos laiskuus iskee. Junamatka keskustaan ruuhka-aikojen ulkopuolella maksaa $2,36 (n. 1,7€) ja ruuhka-aikoina eli klo. 7-9 tai 16-18.30 $3,38 (n. 2,44€). Nämä on siis Opal kortin hintoja mihin ladataan saldoa etukäteen ja maksetaan käytön mukaan. Joka tapauksessa tullaan liikkumaan paljon eri puolille Sydneyä, joten ei tuolla matkalla niin väliä ole.

Majapaikkana toimii siis rauhallisella omakotitaloalueella sijaitseva talo, jonka pihassa on erillinen piharakennus meitä varten :) Keittiö ja vessa ovat päätalon yhteydessä, mutta silti meillä on erilliset kuin host-perheellä. Jos joku ei tunne Airbnb:n ideaa niin sinne voi kuka tahansa laittaa asuntonsa tai huoneen vuokralle. Meidän tapauksessa vuokranantaja toimii Kiinasta Sydneyyn yli 10 vuotta sitten muuttanut nainen. Perheeseen kuuluu lisäksi border collie, joka ei meitä eläinrakkaina ihmisinä häiritse. Täältä voitte kurkata meidän majapaikkaa :)

Briefly in English:

G' day mate! Sydney accommodation is now booked! Woop woop! We'll be staying in Ashbury which is approx. 9 kilometers from CBD (central business district). The train ride takes only 15 minutes and the train station is approx. 1,8 kilometers away from the house. Trains are quite cheap, one way $2,36 (outside rush hours) so no worries there. The rooms around CBD and Bondi beach were around 1050€ for the month so we're going to save quite a lot not staying there.

The "room" we have is actually a separate building with a big bedroom. The kitchen and bathroom are located in the main house where the hosts live. It's not luxury but we're not looking for it. It costs 760€ for 27 nights (5 October - 1 November). It's almost the same what we pay at home! Sydney isn't that expensive after all but I'm sure we were lucky and found a good bargain. Oh and we booked it through Airbnb.
