Manly

Keväisessä Sydneyssä sataa yllättävän usein, joten rantapäivät piti suunnitella tarkoin. Ajattelimme mennä Manly beachille ottamaan aurinkoa, mutta oli sen verran tuulista (ja kylmää?), että kävimme vain vilkaisemassa rannan. Manlyyn pääsee keskustasta kätevimmin lautalla. Matka maksoi jotain 7 dollarin luokkaa ja kesti puolisen tuntia. Lauttamatka on todella mukava ja samalla näkee myös hienoja maisemia.

Manlyssa on paljon surffiaiheisia kauppoja, aikalailla samat kuin Bondilla, paljon ruokapaikkoja ja tietysti hieno ranta. Tunnelma on rento ja aivan erilainen kuin kaupungin sykkeessä. Aivan kuin olisimme menneet johonkin toiseen kaupunkiin.

Koska emme menneet rannalle ja aikaa oli, lähdimme kävelemään kohti Sydney Harbour National parkkia ja North Headia, entistä sotilaslinnoitusta. North Headista vielä vähän eteenpäin rannikolle löytyy Fairfaxin näköalapaikka, josta voi ihailla auringonlaskua kaupungin ylle ja hyvällä tuurilla bongata valaita kuten meille kävi. Valaat olivat aika kaukana, mutta veden pärskeet näkyivät hyvin.  

Tykästyimme todella Manlyyn ja sinne voisikin mennä sitten seuraavaksi kun Sydneyyn eksyy.

The weather varies quite a lot in spring and you need to plan a head e.g. when to go to the beach etc. Our first thought was going to the beach but since it was so windy we just decided to check it out and see other stuff in Manly. Taking the ferry is the best way to reach Manly from the center. The ferry ride takes around 30 minutes and costs around $7. The ferry ride itself it's really nice as well. 

There's a lot of surff shops in Manly, mostly the same as in Bondi, nice cafes and restaurants and of course the beautiful beach. The atmosphere is really relaxed and very different than in the city. Feels like a totally different city. 

Since we didn't go to the beach we had time to do something else. We headed to Sydney Harbour National Park and North Head fort. A little bit further to the coast from North Head is Fairfax lookout. From there you can view the amazing sunset over the city and if you are lucky, like we were, see some whales. The whales were really far away but we saw the water columns that they sprayed. 

We really liked Manly and next time when we're in Sydney we'll definitely spend some more time in there.
